An In-Depth Look At The 2023 Can-Am Maverick X3 Lineup
Nov 15th 2023
BRP is a firm that’s well acquainted with groundbreaking releases. And many folks have asked us if anything crazy was done to their 2023 Maverick X3 lineup. We’ll leave it up to you, dear reader, to decide what’s groundbreaking and what’s not, but here are some facts we thought you should know about the 2023 Can-Am Maverick X3, as well as what has been changed, added, or removed since 2022!
The 2023 Maverick X3 DS Turbo
The big news in mid 2022 when BRP’s 2023 Can-Am Maverick X3 SSV lineup was first unveiled was that the 2023 Maverick X3 DS Turbo was going to get a boost in horsepower. Previously, the X3 DS Turbo was restricted by the factory ECU to limit the vehicle’s power output to 120hp. Thanks to the new and freshly-calibrated electronic control unit in the 2023 Can-Am Maverick X3 DS Turbo – as well as an improved turbo assembly and larger turbo injectors – the vehicle is now capable of generating a whopping 135hp! Add to this some aftermarket clutch work, a full exhaust, and a Whalen ECU flash, and you can squeeze even more power out of your 2023 Turbo X3!
Another improvement that Can-Am made to the 2023 Maverick X3 DS Turbo is a more refined clutch. Back in 2022, Can-Am introduced pDrive pulleys to their clutches, which expanded the shifting range, sped up the machine’s acceleration, and ensured that the engine was kept at the optimal RPM at all times.
The pDrive clutches also received torque rollers – instead of sliders – in 2022 that lock the clutch plate in place and eliminate unwanted play. This, in turn, gets rid of much of the friction that once existed, and decreases vibrations and the noises associated with it. PDrive clutches were reserved for the 200-HP Turbo RR trim back in 2022, but in 2023, the X3 Turbo DS was upgraded with both the pDrive primary as well as the QRS-X CVT for lightning-fast responses, better reliability, and quieter acoustics!
The 2023 Maverick X3 DS Turbo RR & X3 MAX DS Turbo RR
2023 X3 Turbo models such as the Maverick X3 X RS Turbo RR with Smart-Shox 72 now come with a factory roof, and the Maverick X3 X RC Turbo RR 72 now comes with a roof, retractable 4-point harnesses, and a 4,500-Lb winch! Where looks are concerned, the 2023 X3 DS Turbo RR and the 2023 X3 MAX DS Turbo RR will come in three color schemes: Desert Tan, Octane Blue, and Catalyst Gray with gold accents.
Other Changes To The 2023 Maverick X3 Lineup
The 2023 Maverick X3 X MR Turbo RR 72, the 2023 Maverick X3 MAX X MR Turbo RR 72, the 2023 Maverick X3 X RC Turbo RR 72 and their 64” counterparts dropped their 650W magnetos and replaced them with 850W magnetos. This is less important for stock riders, but more important for those who add heaps of aftermarket accessories such as radios, lights, winches and heaters!
Final Thoughts On The 2023 Can-Am Maverick X3 Lineup
Each model of the 2023 Maverick X3 offers something different. For mud riders, the X MR trim not only comes with aggressive mud tires for maximum traction, a winch for recovery, and arched double a-arms to handle extreme torsional forces, but also a lower gear ratio and snorkeled air intakes for the engine / clutch to prevent water damage. The 2023 Maverick X3 X RC trim, on the other hand, is geared for rocks with its Maxxis Liberty tires and Smart-Loc differentials, while the performance trims are dialed for anything from open trails to dunes. If you were hoping for a multi-color display, this can be added from the aftermarket.
